You deserve less pain.
Hi, my name is Marlena. Iβm an art educator and the creator of Chronic Pain Confidant.
Iβve lived with daily pain from Chronic Migraine for over 15 years and was diagnosed with a second chronic pain condition, Ankylosing Spondylitis, about 2 years ago.
Through my own daily creative practice, I realize that my pain is less active when I am making art. For me, making art falls into many different categories: taking photo walks, doodling in a journal, completing a simple art activity, and even writing. No matter what medium, I take time daily to be creative and present. This practice allows for less pain and more moments of peace.
Before I found a daily creative practice, I spent many years hating my body and doing my best to dissociate from my persistent pain. I was scared to βlook the pain in the eyeβ and instead tried my best to hide from painβ¦ who wouldnβt!? Hiding from my pain (ironically) left me feeling sad, shame, and even more pain every day.
You deserve less pain, just like I do.
Art will not be a βquick fixβ to your chronic pain. It will not take the place of your medications, therapy visits, or doctorβs appointments. Instead, it can be a huge part of your comprehensive care plan. It can add to your options and give you time for peace every day.
If youβre unsure just ask yourselfβ¦ What if this helps?
Well, what if it helps?
(Itβs okay to try something new- who knows, maybe youβll even enjoy it?!)
